ABOUT ACTIVE HCP

The Active Healthcare Practice was established in 2016 with the vision of being able to provide a multidisciplinary approach to treating musculoskeletal pain & injury, as well as helping to improve function and performance, all under one roof from the same practitioner.

We are proud to be registered with the Complimentary and Natural Healthcare Council which means that you can rest assured that qualifications have been verified to make sure that they meet National Occupational Standards and that insurance and first aid training is up to date, as well as checking that training and knowledge skills are current.

Our clinic at Arena Business Centre in Poole, Dorset, offers a comfortable, relaxed setting whilst maintaining the strictest hygiene measures. There is plenty of free parking available and disabled access with lift.

ABOUT me (JULIA OWEN)

I founded the Active Healthcare Practice in 2016, following my initial training as a sports
massage therapist and personal trainer.  I had sustained a back injury in 2014, which had a huge impact not only on my fitness, but also on normal daily activities and social life, so I really get how frustrating, painful, (and sometimes frightening) an injury can be! My injury became a turning point, forcing me to pause, reassess, and navigate the road to recovery. Whilst I found a range of therapies helped me get back on my feet, I found it frustrating that I was unable to find one practitioner who could offer a joined-up approach. This experience highlighted a gap in the healthcare landscape: the need for evidence-based, multi-modal treatment under one roof. I established the Active Healthcare Practice to meet that need, combining hands-on therapies with structured rehabilitation and patient education to empower patients and help them feel in control of their recovery, coming back stronger and more resilient than ever

I’m proud to have had the opportunity to train with world-renowned tutors in a multitude of
disciplines, including Sports Massage, Sports Therapy, osteopathic and chiropractic treatments, Medical Acupuncture, Nutrition, and Exercise Prescription.

Now an accomplished Musculoskeletal Therapist, my personal interests in medical fields have further shaped my training, and I’ve gone on to study techniques and treatments to help with women’s health and menopause, Hypermobility & Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome, Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue, and treatments to support patients living with cancer, as well as post-operative lymphatic massage & scar work, including for cosmetic procedures.
I hold a Level 4 ITEC diploma in Sports Massage Therapy, with additional training in oncology
massage, lymphatic massage, and post-operative care. I also hold a Level 4 diploma in Personal Training & exercise for back pain management, as well as an Exercise Referral specialist qualification.

I hold the renowned OMT Diploma in Osteopathic Articulation and am a certified OMT
practitioner in Advanced Spinal and Peripheral Manipulation, as well as Medical Acupuncture.
I also undertook the FHT-accredited Level 5 diploma in Sports & Clinical Therapy.
Adding to my qualifications, I’m an FHT-accredited Clinical Yoga Instructor and certified in
Advanced Kinesio Taping.

At The Active Healthcare Practice, I combine advanced clinical training with personal experience to offer genuinely holistic, patient-centred care. My special interests stem from both professional expertise and personal & family experience — understanding first-hand how frustrating it can be to find truly specialist help. Each of these focus areas reflects my commitment to helping people rebuild trust in their bodies, reduce pain, and restore confidence through integrated, evidence-based therapy and movement.

Women’s Health & Menopause

Hormonal changes during perimenopause and menopause can influence muscle tone, joint mobility, and fascial elasticity, often causing stiffness, fatigue, and discomfort. Many women also experience changes in posture, pelvic stability, and recovery speed. At The Active Healthcare Practice, I use an integrated approach — combining massage, medical acupuncture, Tecar therapy, and tailored rehabilitation exercise plans to relieve pain, improve movement, and enhance tissue health. Gentle lymphatic drainage and hot stones massage can further support relaxation and fluid balance and TCM acupuncture techniques can be highly effective in reducing menopause symptoms. This stage of life doesn’t have to mean living with discomfort— the right support helps women feel strong, balanced, and confident in their changing bodies.

Hypermobility & Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS)

People with hypermobility or hEDS often feel stiff even though their joints are too mobile — the body tenses to protect unstable joints, leading to chronic tightness and fatigue. Many have spent years stretching out their pain, when in reality, what they need is carefully guided strengthening and stability training. My specialist knowledge in this area helps patients understand why their body feels the way it does, and how to support it safely. Treatments such as gentle sports massage, osteopathic manipulation, kinesiology taping, medical acupuncture, and Tecar therapy can help relieve pain and improve control. Bespoke rehabilitation plans then build strength and proprioception without overload — helping you move with confidence again.

Fibromyalgia & Chronic Fatigue

Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndromes often bring widespread muscle pain, tenderness, and deep tiredness that can affect every aspect of daily life. At The Active Healthcare Practice, I focus on calming the nervous system, easing muscle tension, and gradually restoring movement confidence. Gentle therapeutic massage, hot stones therapy, and medical acupuncture help reduce sensitivity and promote deep relaxation. Lymphatic drainage supports immune and circulatory health, while gradual, bespoke exercise plans rebuild tolerance and energy safely. The goal is to restore balance — helping you move better, rest better, and feel more in control of your recovery.

Cancer Support Treatments

Cancer and its treatments can leave the body sensitive, swollen, and fatigued. Specialist oncology massage and lymphatic drainage are safe, adaptive therapies designed to support patients at any stage — from diagnosis to long-term survivorship. These treatments gently promote circulation, reduce discomfort, and provide a restorative sense of calm. When appropriate, additional modalities such as scar work, Tecar therapy, or ultrasound may be introduced to enhance tissue healing and comfort. Each session is entirely bespoke, respecting your energy levels, medical background, and emotional wellbeing — helping you feel supported throughout your journey.

Post-Operative & Cosmetic Surgery: Lymphatic Massage & Scar Work

After any surgical procedure — medical or cosmetic — the body needs specialist care to reduce swelling, support tissue repair, and improve scar mobility. Post-operative lymphatic drainage and scar work help to manage inflammation, restore comfort, and enhance healing outcomes. At The Active Healthcare Practice, treatments are tailored to your recovery stage, combining safe manual techniques with adjunctive therapies such as Tecar therapy, ultrasound, and myofascial release. These evidence-based methods promote smoother healing, reduce tightness, and support your confidence as you recover and reconnect with your body.
